After a year and a half of work, the OpenTC project makes public the first proof-of-concept prototype of its Trusted Computing architecture. This work involved several developers from HP (United-Kingdom), IBM (Switzerland), Politecnico di Torino (Italy), Ruhr-Universitaet Bochum (Germany), Technische Universität Dresden (Germany), IAIK Graz University of Technology (Austria) and SuSE (Germany). This proof-of-concept prototype aims at demonstrating the feasibility of the OpenTC approach, combining Trusted Computing (TC) and virtualisation technologies with Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) development.

The OpenTC system is released as a proof-of-concept prototype because it has not been completely and thoroughly tested, and it does not contain all the components of the OpenTC architecture and some components are not in a finalised form. The source code from the OpenTC proof-of-concept prototype is released under the GNU GPL version 2 license with a few minor exceptions, provided as both a Live CD (binaries) and source code. The OpenTC proof-of-concept prototype was tested on HP and IBM laptops equipped with Trusted Platform Modules (TPMs) and is distributed with a disclaimer of responsibility.
